Volunteer Behavior Guidelines

  1. Volunteers are expected to adhere to all Brazil Public Library policies and procedures during their shifts.
  2. Volunteers must follow the direction of Library staff members and treat them with respect at all times.
  3. Volunteers represent the Brazil Public Library and should behave accordingly. Volunteers should be polite and courteous to everyone you come in contact with — staff, patrons and other volunteers.
  4. Volunteers must schedule shifts in advance with the designated Library Volunteer Coordinator on staff. The designated Library Volunteer Coordinator is the only staff member that will schedule shifts. Schedules and specific time commitments must be mutually agreed upon before volunteer arrival.
  5. Volunteers must notify the Library Volunteer Coordinator as soon as possible if they cannot report for volunteer assignments or may be late.
  6. Volunteers may not work more than four (4) hours per day.
  7. Volunteers may not work without the supervision of a Library staff member. Volunteers will only work during hours when adequate supervision is available.
  8. Volunteers are required to complete a log sheet of the hours volunteered. Volunteers must sign in and out of every shift.
  9. Volunteers must be identified by wearing a volunteer badge at all times.
  10. Volunteers must report and document injuries, incidents and concerns to staff as soon as they occur.
  11. Volunteers must abstain from drugs, tobacco products, alcohol and controlled substances while representing the Library. Engaging in these activities will result in immediate dismissal.
  12. Volunteer work will be judged by similar standards applied to paid employees and will be subject to ongoing evaluation. Volunteers who are unable to observe the guidelines will not be eligible to continue participating in the volunteer program.
